About Coombe & Sharpe
Paul Coombe & Alan Sharpe founded the company in 1985 and went limited in 1997. The working partnership developed more than 30 years ago as a result of working together as sub-contractors on local forestry operations. Paul’s background is in the building industry whilst Alan’s is in forestry and farming.
This winning team decided to set up a business together to take advantage of some pretty big gaps in the market for everything from garden landscaping to building-site ground works, and our success speaks for itself.
Since its early days the Coombe & Sharpe business has grown successfully and has broadened out into other areas. Today we are a multi stranded company that is always professional, taking pride in our workmanship. We employ a dedicated team who are well trained and operate safely. Our focus on training our workforce and expanding each individual’s skills-set ensure that together we can adapt to changes in the industry and bring new skills required onboard quickly.
As a company we pride ourselves on the quality of our workmanship and customer service. We aim to deliver the best landscaping service whatever the customer’s design and budget needs.
Domestic Landscaping Services
We deliver expert workmanship in block paving, fencing, decking, drainage and arboriculture. We believe in using quality products and delivering excellent service to suit all budgets and design ideas.
Commercial Property Maintenance
We provide comprehensive site and buildings maintenance for housing developments within the Housing Association and Council ownership. We are also happy to consider smaller maintenance contracts for privately owned residential flats and business premises.

Paul is one of the founding members of Coombe & Sharpe and is a managing director. Paul’s background is in construction.
Being a qualified expert in all facets of buildings, highways, driveways, fencing and waste handling and management services.
Alan Sharpe
managing director
Alan is one of the founding members also of Coombe & Sharpe and is a managing director. Alan’s background is in farming and forestry.
Being a qualified expert in all aspects of tree & arboreal management, fencing, paving and waste handling & management.
Helen Sharpe
safety, environmental, HR, finance and business
Helen Sharpe joined the Company in 2011 and runs the Coombe & Sharpe office, with a background in HRM and Leadership Development.
She has worked as a consultant delivering leadership & change programmes to companies in Cumbria.
Meet The Landscape Team
Our team leaders are specialists in brick laying, fencing design and construction, whilst our team members are skilled labourers and are developing their landscaping skills as they progress.
All our landscaping staff are qualified to operate the full range of excavation, load carrying, cutting and chipping equipment. They are training and certified under all the relevant health and safety regulations governing landscape management.
We recognise the importance of growing and training our workforce and the importance of supporting the local workplace, as such have a number of Apprentices on board that are learning their trade by working with professional landscapers.

ERDF Funding – Stages 1, 2 and 3
In 2018, we were pleased to be awarded a grant from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. allow us to improve the storage of materials and recycling materials in the yard and enable us to create an improved workshop for the Coombe & Sharpe team to make fencing panels and gates, all of which will permit us to employ additional staff.
As of December, stage 1 of this funding has been delivered and a fleet of new machinery for the yard has arrived. Alan and Paul are, we gather, like kids in the sweetshop with all the new toys!
Update 2020: Stage 2 and 3 of the project are now complete. The upgrades to the workshop are finished and we have taken possession of the new woodworking equipment which will enable us to grow our business further.
