‘The Outdoor Kitchen Living Dining Space’ for Amelia Wilson
Back in 2016 we were delighted to have our project for interior designer Amelia Wilson featured in Real Homes magazine.
The project comprised a palatial summerhouse (no garden shed, this!) and beautiful decked area with seating and planting areas, making the most of Holly Cottage’s fabulous rural views and location.
Since then, and with her husband’s retirement meaning they have more time to enjoy being outdoors, the talented Mrs Wilson has been keeping us busy with a large extension to the summerhouse’s decked area to provide an outdoor kitchen and dining area.
As well as all suitably original, as you would expect, it is designed to make the culinary and dining experience independent from the house, with two barbecues and a pizza oven plus all the kitchen utensils and a Belfast-ware sink.
When the oven supplier’s stand was a disappointment, Coombe & Sharpe were pleased to produce solid bespoke timberwork using railway sleepers and built to Amelia’s specification to support the pizza oven and a matching stand for the sink.
The fencing is designed to shelter the deck from the worst of the weather but still allow the wind through to make it more resistant to gales, allow light and glimpses of the greenery behind rather than shutting it out. It also provides a handy frame to hang shelves and utensils.
With the designer’s eye for detail, Amelia was keen to reflect the spacing and orientation of the summerhouse cladding in the new fencing slats so the two flow together, particularly as the fence weathers to silver.
You can read more about this and the Holly Cottage project as a whole on Amelia’s blog and find out more about her work on her Facebook page. She’d be pleased to assist if you need help with your own design.
If you’re inspired by this project and are thinking of remodelling your outside space for alfresco sitting, cooking or dining, speak to Coombe & Sharpe. We’re pleased to provide the practical input to your dream of outdoor living.
